The exhibition runs from November 16 through December 21, 2013.

Artistic and cultural expressions have always been alive in Peruvian culture. Early civilizations depicted religious beliefs and daily life in their art forms. Ceramics and textiles survive to this day. Art during the colonial period was influenced by European traditions but retained elements of indigenous cultures, most notably the Incas. The School of Cuzco and the School of Lima were the most important trends in painting to develop in the 17th Century continuing into the 18th Century. During the years of terrorism in the 1980s – 1990’s artistic expression was suppressed. Now in a country with a strong growing economy, a country with one of its most beautiful ancient cities, Machu Picchu, declared one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Peruvian artists and authors are finding new voices and themes. Prominent art schools are flourishing which once again recognizes the importance of art in Peruvian culture.

Icaro Gallery is proud to present a group of award-winning painters representing this new Peruvian era. Their work includes themes the previous generations did not have the opportunity to explore such as politics, government, religion and the plight of society. The styles range from abstract surrealism to realism.

The group show curated by Cesar L Ravenna highlights the paintings of Peruvian Master Victor Delfin, best known for his monumental sculpture “El Beso” (the kiss) located in the center of the “Love Park” in Miraflores, Lima. The show also features the paintings of artists Mauro Yrigoyen, Maria Mandun, Gabriel Mendivil, Lenin Alvarez, Ines Villanueva, Ivan DiNatale, Jose Cortez, Eva Lopez and Gonzalo Garcia.
